Introduction.
It seems only right that the first post on a website called not niche dot com should explain how it came to be, or maybe what it is about. Maybe every blog should start out that way, I wouldn't know, I don't actually follow any blogs.
I have in the last few years read quite a bit about businesses, mostly starting new ones. One thing that always seems to come up is to be niche, don't try to be everything to everyone. Be very good at selling one specific thing to one specific demographic. It is very sound advice, you see evidence of its success everywhere. I however, have a very hard time with it. I like way too many different things, and I have a hard time focusing on one long enough to turn it into a big thing. I know it is a flaw, a weakness, but that leads me to another bit of advice that is repeated by many who know what they are talking about; focus on your strengths, don't try to fix your weaknesses. So where does that leave me? Well I figure it leaves me with my niche being not having one. Kind of an oxymoron, I know, but it might make sense if you really think about it. You can't apply this anti-logic to just anything though, this is the kind of stupid that can only work in very specific circumstances, like a blog.
I do not quite know what direction this website will take. If the name of it holds any bearing, then it will go all over the place, and I hope it does. I am going to use this website to do what I want to, not what makes sense. I know that one thing I want to do is write, hence the blog. I don't have any specific audience in mind, but I am excited to learn who they are. Apparently you might be one of them. As the home page says at the time of this post, this is my playground, and I have no rules here. This website is for me to explore my writing, and I hope you enjoy it.
