Take Your Own Advice.

You know how when someone has a problem, you always seem to know the answer? It seems like their problems have a fairly simple solution. Maybe it isn't even someone you know, maybe it is a person on TV or in the news. It is always easier to diagnose someone else and know what they should do. The trouble is, I bet you give out advice that you don't follow yourself. I bet you believe things that you have a hard time practicing. Like the fat guy who is always handing out diet advice. You are not alone, don't worry. We all have that fat guy inside of us.

The first step is learning to disconnect your thought process from your problems. When you have a problem or are struggling with something, try to view it as if it is someone else's problem. This is one of those places where you have to be honest with yourself, truly, objectively honest. Another thing that helps is to pay attention to the advice you dish out. Be conscious of the “you should's”, the “ you have to's” and anything similar. This may lead to you analyzing all of your beliefs, which is a good thing, don't worry. It is perfectly alright to change one of your viewpoints because you actually thought about it, rather than just parroting things your parents told you, things you heard on the news, or things you read on the internet. People tend to shame others when they change their opinions, but I believe it is a sign of wisdom.

What advice do you hand out that you don't follow?
